Why Midjourney files get labeled
Generative tools increasingly ship machine-readable hints about how an image was made. Depending on the export path, that can include XMP-style tool fields, description strings, or C2PA-style provenance when a pipeline writes Content Credentials.
Platforms that auto-label AI content often start with those file signals. Cleaning the download is the step creators skip when they save from Discord or the web app and upload immediately.
Recommended workflow
Download the highest-quality still you plan to post, convert to PNG or JPEG if needed, then strip removable metadata before social upload.
- Save the final Midjourney still (not a phone screenshot of the grid).
